根据工件的重量和面积计算磷化槽的体积，控制合理的产品面积和磷化液体积的比例，避免因为磷化不断的工作产生大量的二价铁离子，导致磷化液发黑，按常规来讲磷化槽体的单位体积的负荷量是3-15平方米每个立方，不可以超过258平方米每个立方，否则因为槽液负荷过大，磷化液里的重要成分消耗过快，促使磷化液不稳定，难于调整。
磷化槽的制造
磷化槽一般分为圆形槽和方形槽两大类，前面一种适合大批量的生产，后面这种适合与间歇式的生产。磷化槽所用的材质必须要能承受磷化液的腐蚀和耐高温，必须要有足够的强度能承受磷化液的载荷永远不变形。磷化槽最好要用4-8毫米的厚度的钢板，锰系磷化液温度比较高，一般在95度左右，溶液酸度高，选用不锈钢的，采用塑料槽的时候，要用8-14毫米的塑料板为好，有些磷化槽用水泥槽，里面放塑料板或者玻璃钢防腐蚀，这种磷化槽制作成本低，可以制造大型的磷化槽。
船型的磷化槽带有锥斗，便于收集磷化渣。锥斗可以排放在磷化槽的底部，也能在局部放置，底部应该设计成喷管，使磷化渣按照要求流到锥斗里面。
方形磷化槽底向排渣口倾斜，其倾斜坡度是4-8，在磷化槽倾斜的最低的地方应该设置排水管。
磷化槽体的体积一般是泵输出量的3-5倍。
