Tulsion® CMB polymers have chloromethyl functionality and are used for peptide synthesis.Use of such polymers for peptide synthesis was initiated by Merrifield in 1963. The formation of peptide bond starts with reaction of a protected amino acid molecule with chloromethyl group on the surface of the polystyrene polymer. After removal of the protecting group, a new amino acid molecule is reacted to elongate the peptide chain. The elongation is continued with stepwise addition. Excess reagents and byproducts are removed by filtration at each step. The final step in the synthesis involves freeing up of the protecting group as well as liberating the peptidefrom the polymer. Properties of the polymers can be tailor-made to suit individual application needs.
They are made under very carefully controlled conditions using strictest quality standards.

The foundation of all polymeric synthesis is the polymeric matrix. Tulsion®CB 100 / 200 is commonly used resin. The most important characteristics considering solid phase organic synthesis are the swelling factor and the bead size of the resin. The swelling characteristics areaffected by the factors such as degree of crosslinking, hydrophobisity of substrate and nature ofthe matrix.
Tulsion® CB 100 / 200 itself is very hydrophobic in nature and swells in a non-polar solvent. It is used in solid phase organic chemistry is crosslinked with DVB to give mechanically stable matrix in presence of swelling solvents.
Tulsion®CB 100 / 200 resins are used in variety of reactions to give Chloromethyl resins or Merrifield resins (Tulsion®CMB), Wang resins chlorotrytil resins and other resins used in solidphase peptide synthesis.
